Pirates & Artists

When you’re in the historic city centre of Dordrecht, it’s impossible to miss the Voorstraat. With its 1,200 metres, it’s the longest shopping street in the Netherlands. Voorstraat-Noord is the most atmospheric section.

“Voorstraat-Noord is coloured by the many antique, book and art shops.”

Voorstraat-Noord is the street leading up to the centre with large shopping chains and is filled with historic stories. For example, the spot around the Kerksteiger was infamous for its pirates and number 190 houses Pictura, the oldest drawing society in the Netherlands. But the area is mainly known for its many antique, book and art shops. On the first Sunday of the month, they all open their doors for ‘Kunstrondje Dordt’. In the summer, there are plenty of markets and festivals to enjoy here.

Nice to know!

At number 87, you can find the narrowest house in Dordrecht. With its width of only 2.80 metres, it’s a dwarf compared to its neighbour at number 85. The building at number 265 is also often called the narrowest house, but since that building doesn’t have an entrance, 87 is the true winner.
